Worn down uneven upper teeth treatment

Braces focus on making your teeth straight by shifting them into their correct positions, but they do not change the shape of individual teeth nor do they increase the length. Tooth length is determined mainly by genetics and over time changes as we use them.

If you have the tendency to grind your teeth, also known as bruxism, your teeth will eventually become shorter. Grinding your teeth can be caused by various factors; and if left untreated, it can cause the teeth to shorten more. If you find that you grind your teeth severely, please consult your dentist to determine the cause and explore treatment options.

The common cause of teeth grinding

  • Stress and anxiety: People who grind their teeth in response to stress or anxiety usually grind their teeth when they are sleeping. This can lead to excessive wear on the teeth.

Longer teeth can make you look younger

Consider getting veneers if you're unhappy with the shortness of your teeth. Dental veneers are a thin layer of porcelain bonded to the front of your teeth. They are designed to match your preference, color, shape, and size giving you a flawless and natural-looking smile.

Veneers can be used to correct dental issues such as gaps and stains. They can also help to improve the appearance of small or short teeth, giving you a more youthful and symmetrical smile.

Are you self-conscious about your smile due to the shortness of your front teeth?

Britney came to us due to her concern of short and worn front teeth. She was self-conscious about her smile not being ideal, so we took the time to listen to her concerns and develop a treatment plan that tailored to her specific needs. First, we checked her bite using NTI deprogrammer and brought her jaw in the neutral position, then we checked her bite interference.

Usually, in a case like this a slight premature contact in the very back teeth on both sides is common. We corrected the premature contact and balanced the bite before we started designing her smile. First, we used the temporary material to give her a longer and youthful look and had her use for a while to check the esthetic results and occlusion to make sure the temporary did not break and was functional for her to eat and speak naturally with the new temporary. If the temporary veneers break easily the final veneers might not last long. To create a functional aesthetic smile that last for decades, we decided to do 10 veneers.

After giving her new functional aesthetic temporary veneers, she found that she grinded her teeth less. Then we finalized with actual porcelain veneers.
